Prerequisites
Before you touch a single setting, make sure your box is running the latest firmware and that you have a stable connection. A wired link is ideal, but a solid Wi-Fi 6E signal works in a pinch. Grab your playlist URL and, if you have one, your EPG source.
Choosing a player
Not all IPTV apps are built the same. The newer open players handle large playlists far better than the bundled defaults. Install from a trusted source and grant only the storage permission you actually need.
Loading the playlist
Paste the playlist URL rather than importing a local file. A remote list refreshes itself when your provider rotates channels, and you avoid re-importing every few weeks.
Configuring the EPG
The EPG is where most setups quietly fail. Point the player at your XMLTV feed, let it fetch, and confirm that channel logos and program names line up. If they do not, the feed URL is usually the culprit, not the player.
Rule of thumb: if a channel loads but has no guide data, it is a feed problem. If nothing loads at all, it is a network problem.
Buffer tuning
Start with a 15-second buffer and work from there. Bump it to 30 seconds only if you see repeats during live sports. Too much buffer and you will feel the delay; too little and the stream will stutter on live events.
4K HDR checks
Force the output mode to match your panel instead of leaving it on auto. Auto-switching between 50Hz and 60Hz is a common cause of a black screen at channel change.
Troubleshooting
Stalling on a single channel usually means that source is overloaded, so try a mirror. Persistent black screens on 4K content almost always trace back to a colour-space mismatch in your TV settings.
